A Chieftain of the ruling party in Nasarawa State, All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, Senator Abubakar Danso Sodangi, is dead.
Sodangi who represented Nasarawa West for 12 years in the Nigerian Senate died on Sunday night. He was aged 70.
He served as Chairman of the Campaign Council for the re-election of Governor Abdullahi Sule in 2023.
Senator Sodangi led the 2023 reelection campaign of Governor Sule Abdullahi even when it was scary he was going to lose the election in the face of both the Labour Party's influence in the state and the People's Democratic Party's threat. He led the campaign train of Governor Abdullahi Sule and delivered his second term election though it was accused of manipulation.
Sodangi was one of the founding members of the PDP. He was elected to the Senate seat in 1999 and was re-elected in 2003 and 2007.
In April 2008, a document from the Abuja Geographic Information System surfaced that appeared to show that Sodangi or his family members were owners of 14 residential plots and six commercial plots in the Abuja Federal Capital Territory (FCT). A letter to the Minister of the FCT [then], Nasir el-Rufai, showed he had requested plots of land to replace others where the structures had been demolished. The request was granted after el-Rufai left office in May 2007.
