President Tinubu Supports Push for Fubara's Impeachment?

President Tinubu Supports Push for Fubara
Bola Tinubu Wike Fubara
The political crisis hitting Rivers State is taking serious dimension that the majority of the people supporting the state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, against his erstwhile political godfather, Nyesom Wike, have agreed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is in support of the moves to impeach the embattled Governor.

Recall that about 27 of the 32 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly on Monday, December 11th announced their defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Although the Round Table reported that one of the defected 27 lawmakers has refused and returned to the PDP 72 hours after the mass defection the majority of the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly are with the former Governor of the state and the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. This has given rise to the fear in the mind of the supporters of the governor recalling that the lawmakers loyal to Wike are already pushing for Fubara's impeachment.

Owing to the stated reasons for the fears of Fubara's impeachment, his supporters and sympathizers are accusing President Bola Tinubu of having an interest in Fubara's impeachment trial. They suggested that President Tinubu was too silent about the political developments in Rivers State, and ought to have cautioned Wike who is his Minister.

Not only this, some relied on their arguments for accusing Tinubu of being in support of Wike's push for Fubara's Impeachment on a complaint raised by ex-Niger Delta militant, Asari Dokubo, who said the Ijaw people are unhappy with President Tinubu's silence over Rivers State's political imbroglio.

All heard and said, how justifiable can anyone accuse President Tinubu of supporting the impeachment of a governor elected on the platform of an opposition party who he has had meetings with on the said crisis but, days after the meeting, resumed contending issues fueling the crisis?

When Tinubu took the first move, calling together Wike and Fubara to overturn Rivers lawmakers to stage an impeachment process a few weeks ago, how many people accused Tinubu of having an interest in removing Fubara?

Was Tinubu elected to resolve the political crisis of the opposition Governor who is hearing from both his boss and the political foe of his boss?

What do people want?

Do they want Tinubu to take the position of the Rivers State House of Assembly so they can begin to condemn him for "killing democracy?"

Do they want him to order Governor Fubara to relocate to Aso Rock so he won't be touched by his state's lawmakers?

When Tinubu intervened earlier; Have his supporters mandated the Governor to come out and tell the world what later happened that led him to support the impeachment of the Speaker of the House with the backing of 25 to 26 other members whereas he supported a speaker who has the backing of just 3 members?

If all we want is for President Tinubu to pocket the Rivers State House of Assembly because Governor Fubara must stay, how do we shortly await a situation where a President goes the other way, using the State House to remove a sitting Governor, a political stage we think we have passed with the regime of former President Olusegun Obasanjo?

There is a separation of power between the Local Government, the State, and the Federal; this also comes with a separation of power between the Executive, Judiciary, and Legislature at these levels of governance which must not be hijacked by anyone as some people want President Tinubu to hijack Rivers State House of Assembly to safe Governor Fubara.

Nevertheless, Governor Fubara can still be safe without hijacking the Rivers State House of Assembly; there was an agreement reached when he met with the President some weeks ago, every one of his supporters can stand on him to unveil the resolutions to see if there is a necessity for the rancor.
