PDP Appoints Dr. Adie as PDI DG

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the appointment of Dr. Edward Ugbada Adie, of the Department of Theatre & Media Studies, University of Calabar, as the Director-General of its intellectual and research base, People's Democratic Institute (PDI).

PDI is an intellectual and research base of the PDP, and the party claimed the institute had helped it in "providing strategic roadmaps for the feats recorded by successive PDP administrations including building the Nigerian economy to become one of the fastest growing in the world between 1999 to 2015 and handing over a $550 billion economy to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015.

Announcing the appointment of Dr. Adie as the PDI DG, the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Debo Oloogunagba said “Dr Adie is a versatile researcher and expert in Nigerian Democracy, Political Communication and Development Discourse with over thirty-five research works published in both international and local platforms. He is also reputed to have organized several international and national academic conferences.

“He brings on board years of experience and research on democracy and political development to the PDI which has been repositioned to further provide the PDP with research-based data for enhanced democratic practice, electioneering, and governance.”

He, therefore, urged PDP stakeholders, public officials, and policymakers to take advantage of the research data from the PDI for effective management of resources at their various levels of engagement.

Dr. Edward Ugbada Adie joined the services of the University in 2012 as an Assistant Lecturer and was later upgraded to the rank of Lecturer II in 2016.

He holds a B.A. (Hons.) degree in Drama (2006), an M.A. degree in Development Communication (2011), and a Ph.D. degree in Theatre for Development (2016), all from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria-Nigeria.

Edward Adie has been teaching and researching in the areas of Theatre and Development Communication at the University of Calabar-Nigeria. He is a regular participant in many conferences, workshops, seminars, and symposia where he has been presenting papers.

Dr Adie has over twenty-five scholarly publications in both local and foreign peer-reviewed academic journals. He has served his Departments and the university in many positions including Chairman, Departmental Publications Committee; Secretary, examination vetting Committee; Theatre Manager, and Departmental Business Manager amongst others.

He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Theatre and Media Studies, which is domiciled in the Department of Theatre, Film and Carnival Studies, University of Calabar. Dr Adie is also serving as the Assistant Editor of the Calabar Journal of Liberal Studies and Co-ordinating Editor of the Journal of Integrative Humanism in Nigeria. Dr. Edward Adie is the current Secretary General of the Faculties of Arts/Humanities Scholars Association of Nigerian Universities and a member of, the Society of Nigerian Theatre Artists. He is married with children.
