Photo Credit: Premium Times Recently, the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, disclosed his final stance on which presidential candidate would gain his support during the February Presidential election. At the briefing, Chief Obasanjo stated that his support for Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, is meant to uphold Nigeria's unity.
Although the political association is one of the fundamental rights of every citizen in Nigeria, Obasanjo's support for Peter Obi has been receiving both positive and negative reactions from the major political gladiators in the country.
All well said, coming from a sincere mind, how much positive impact can Obasanjo's endorsement of Peter Obi has on the Labour Party, come February?

Chukwumerije, a student of the University of Nigeria Enugu State, stated that Obasanjo's endorsement would attract more people, across the nation, to vote for Peter Obi. He noted that many politicians were waiting for leaders like Chief Obasanjo before they activate their political machinery for the forthcoming election. Olusola David, from, Offa Kwara State and Kutelu Joseph from Ondo State agreed with Chukwumerije.
However, Muftau Nurudeen (Ogun State ) and Lawal Kazaure from Kebbi State maintained that Obasanjo's support for Peter Obi may be insignificant, quoting that Obasanjo's political influence has fallen through the years. The duo agreed that the majority of Obasanjo's followers have either retired from politics or realigned themselves with other political cliques that are active.
Notwithstanding, Segun Akinola and Johnson Wilson believed that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo's support for Peter Obi may materialise some technical support for the Labour Party. They maintained that looking at the ranking of Olusegun Obasanjo in the military, his endorsement may earn security support for the presidential ambition of Peter Obi at the poll.
