Fuad Kayode Laguda The newly elected member of the Surulere 1 Federal Constituency in Lagos State, Fuad Kayode Laguda, has vowed to improve the developmental space of the federal constituency, promising that he will continue from where his predecessor, Femi Gbajabiamila, stopped.
Recall that the seat of the Surulere Federal Constituency 1 became vacant in the House of Representatives after the previous occupant of the seat, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila was appointed the Chief of Staff to the President.
Laguda won the Surulere Bye-Election on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024 with 11,203 votes to defeat the closest party, the People's Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 278 votes while La our party scored 240 votes in the rerun election.
Appreciating leaders of APC at all levels, Hon Laguda said: "Indeed, 3rd February 2024 is a day I will forever cherish. The enormous privilege and honor that has been entrusted to me by the good people of Surulere is one whose memories will continue to linger as I embark on the journey towards continuous effective representation.
"This is a remarkable victory for our dear party, All Progressives Congress (APC), and by extension, my humble self. This victory clearly showed that the good people of Surulere never forget the monumental strides that have been achieved through several other elected officers of our great party.
"Bearing this in mind, I wish to congratulate us.
"However, I have many people to thank for the honor and trust conferred on me through the success of the election.
"Special appreciation goes to the leadership of the party at the three levels (National, State, and Local), led by HE Dr. Umar Ganduje [APC National Chairman], Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi [APC Lagos State Chairman], & Hon. Sheriff Balogun [APC Chairman in Surulere Local Government Area] respectively, their entire executives especially ones that had direct roles, & ward executives, without leaving out the party leaders at all levels, party members, friends & well-wishers.
"The unwavering support of our utmost leader, Rt Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, throughout the electioneering season is unquantifiable. A marvel of governance himself, whose support for my candidature is the bedrock upon which my success is laid.
Harry Emerson Fosdick stated that “democracy is based upon the conviction that there are extraordinary possibilities in ordinary people”; this is the perfect narrative for the input of thousands of you who worked to ensure this success. To you all, I say Thank You.
"As you will understand, this is a call to serve the good people of Surulere. I want to promise you all that the mandate given to me shall be handled judiciously; my focus is on how to move the constituency forward from its present enviable state.
"I will strive hard to ensure that the feats achieved by my predecessor, Rt Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, are greatly improved on. This will start in earnest, even as I enjoin you all to provide feedback for me to chart this course in the right direction.
