Abdullahi Ganduje and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso
Although many political observers and public affairs analysts were skeptical, awaiting what may become the outcome of the Kano State Governorship election until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially declared the winner of the governorship contest.

Interestingly, everyone knows that the election would be keenly contacted but a winner must already have been known since days before the fiber poll.

Many people are putting into consideration, the electoral viability of the two political stalwarts in the state, the incumbent Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and his predecessors, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Although the two political tycoons have their hands on how the governorship election in Kano State was decided, more to it, some external factors came into effect in the course of deciding who won the Kano State governorship seat in the 2023 election.

For those who have an interest in the popularity of Ganduje and Kwankwaso, and how their popularity affected the winner of the fiber poll, I will want to maintain the fact that, with the result of the fiber ooll in Kano State, the two men have shown their strength and it remains hard to say one of them is superior.

Let me justify this, we may want to consider that Ganduje has state resources at his disposal to prosecute the election in his favor. It is more than that; besides the fact that the majority of the men within the camp of Ganduje deserted him to join forces with the Kwankwaso's movement or create their mini-third forces, the external forces that worked against Ganduje, in favor of Kwankwaso supersede the executive power of Ganduje as a sitting governor.

With this, I remain in the stance that Kwankwaso and Ganduje have proven to be great men, in as much as Kano politics is concerned but a movement supported by external factors won the poll.

The root of the external factor that decided the Kano State governorship election could be traced to the dethronement of the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.

Many people might have forgotten what transpired, years ago, at the palace but its effects still live.

Kano traditional councils were still not happy with the removal of Emir Sanusi and they maintained their resentment and expressed it at the polling booths.

Take it or leave it, Emir Sanusi has every connection he could use to lobby the Federal parastatal in the course of checkmating the executive influence of Governor Ganduje towards influencing the results of the election, and that might have balanced the incumbent power of Ganduje.

Above all, there are some northern governors and government officials, many of them from Kaduna State who gave superior support to the Kwankwaso's movement against the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure the Kwankwaso's New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) defeated Ganduje in the guber poll. This helped the Kwankwaso movement a lot in the course of meeting up with Ganduje's executive supremacy.

Kwankwaso was supported by men who have the ears of President Muhammadu Buhari and have influenced how many of the occupants of federal agencies and parastatal got there, and they used it heavily against Ganduje as a person and not minding that their party APC was losing the Kano State Governorship seat, all because of the dethronement of Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
