Tope Olorunferanmi Tope Olorunferanmi, a bolt driver was brutally killed yesterday at Ijoka area of Akure, the Ondo State capital. He was accused of being a Yahoo Boy after his car, a Toyota vehicle got involved in an accident with motorcyclist.
Tope was burned to death after he was beaten to comatose by the mob who were angry about the fetish that was said to be allegedly found in his car, after the accident.
However, revelations from his family members have it that the perception for which Tope was killed were unfound and false.
According to her mother who spoke to our source, Tope after finishing his higher education in Abeokuta, Ogun State decided to relocate to Lagos for hustling.
Two years ago, Tope's dad bought the Toyota car for him to further his hustling in Lagos as bolt driver, the work he was doing until he met his untimely death in Akure when he visited for the Easter celebration.
It was revealed that Tope was in Akure to check on his wife and his one year old daughter who have been with Tope's mum since September, 2022 when they came for the burial ceremony of Tope's grandmother.
Tope was to take his wife to her mother-in-law but his wife turned down the offer because she would not want flies to bite her child because her mother lives in the village. Then, Tope decided to send his family to Lagos with intention to join them in Lagos on last Saturday.
On getting to the Lagos park, the money the transporters charged his wide for her luggage was exorbitant. Tow, according to his wife, then decided to take pa of his wife's luggage including parts of his daughter's clothes and a round earthpot for saving daily money, locally.
29 year old Tope our all these materials that belong to his family in his car with an intention to return to Lagos on Saturday.
Unfortunately, Tope could not make it on Saturday because of a program he has at Ikeji, his wife revealed.
Tope was to return to Lagos on Tuesday but got his car in an accident with bike men at Ijoka junction on Sunday.
Her mother said Tope's Dad was the first to break the bad story to her. She said "Daddy was shouting Tope oooo, Tope ooo, Tope ooo.
Tope's mum said she rushed to the scene of the incidence and met her son in the pool of his blood after being beaten to comatose by the mob.
Tope's mum could recognised one person called "Luku" he is said to be a popularly bikeman in Akure.
Tope's mum said when she pleaded with the crowd that his son is not a ritualist, and attempting to remove the cloth they wet with petroleum to burn Tope alive, she heard Luku saying they should beat her out of the place.
Tope's mum said Luku was heard saying" Tope is too arrogant, he should be killed. Look at the cloth and shoe he put on, I can't afford it. Kill him"
Tope's mum said when the mob re-attacked her and her son with planks and set Tope on fire, she decided to leave the place and withdraw to faith.
Tope's wife revealed that she was already in Lagos awaiting the arrival of his husband on Tuesday. She said" it was a few minutes after she spoke with Tope that she received a call about the incident. They told her that her husband is in coma at the hospital, not knowing that Tope has been killed.
Tope's car was also set ablaze by the irate mobs. However, it could not be substantiated that Tope killed four or six people at the scene of the accident as early reported by the media.
Tope's family members were begging the Ondo State government to assist them in bringing all the perpetrators of the illicit act to book.
