Drug peddlers The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, sang the praise of officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos Command who were investigating a drug peddler case, for the rejection of millions of naira offered to them in attempt to suppress the case.
A statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed that IGP Egbetokun is full of honor for "The officer in charge of the police tactical team attached to Area K, Marogbo, Lagos State Command, SP Rilwan Kasumu, and team, for rejecting the sum of four million naira (#4,000,000) bribe while investigating a case of drug peddling and unlawful possession of ammunition.
SP Kasimu and his team were said to have arrested the drug peddler, Esther Newman Obiekezie, female, 42 years, who is popularly known as Candy, of No 6, Mojirade Street, Ilogbo Lagos, on 6th February 2024, at her base where she sells drugs called ICE, and recovered a large quantity of the substance and some AK_47 live ammunition from her.
During the process of investigating the activities of Esther Obiekezie, it was reported that "The duo of Akete Esther, female, 43, and Oke Okebalam, male, 49 years, of Ajamgbadi Lagos, went to the police station in Ijanikin, to solicit for the release of the drug peddler.
As part of the bargain, aiming for a soft landing for the arrested drug peddler, Esther Obiekezie offered the sum of four million naira and pleaded that the police should stop disrupting the illegal business (drug peddling) of Esther, henceforth.
SP Kasumu and his team were said to have rejected the bribe and seized the money which was marked as an exhibit while the two solicitors were arrested for investigation and prosecution.
Impressed by the development, IGP Egbetokun eulogized the police officers and he "reiterates the commitment of the Force to harnessing all available means and adopting professional anti-crime strategies to tackle all forms of crimes and criminality in Nigeria.
