The only thing worse than being blind is having sight with no "vision", says a visually impaired author, Mr Chinemeze Austin when he paid courtesy visit to the Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Sir Chido Obidiegwu.

Mr Austin, who hails from Umuoba Anam, Anambra East Local Government Area in Anambra State, is the author of the book, "Transformation Of Mathematics For Senior Secondary School" published in 2021.

The book is designed to give students a breadth of fresh air in mathematics.

The author who obtained a Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Mathematics from the University of Maiduguri is set to use his book to simplify difficulties that confront students studying mathematics with the aid of providing simplified illustrations and example which require no further elucidation.

Narrating his ordeal, the mathematician, Mr Austin said that the textbook took him 10 years to produce saying that he lost his sight while writing chapter 29 of the text but with the "spirit of mathematics", and need to cater for the academic needs of students he completed the book despite his sight.

According to Blessing Dennis of ABS News who supervised the programme, Mr Austin said that he lost his sight due to the intense pressure on the computer during the editing of the book.

He noted that the book has been approved by Anambra State Ministry of Education but he called on the Anambra State Government distribute the book to all public schools and libraries in the state which he said will help him raise fund to travel to India for eye surgery.

The mathematician appealed to lovers of education, people in government, spirited individuals and well meaning nigerians to assist him in restoring his sight back through surgery, as it is reversible at this point.

Responding, Sir Obidiegwu described Mr Austin as an intellectual guru who have so much to give to the society, emphasizing that Nigerians have a way of coming to the aid of the vulnerable because they believed so much in humanity.

The ABS Boss joined his voice to call on the public to support Mr Austin expressing optimism that when he regains his sight, he will do more by writing other books that will benefit students and Nigeria at large.
