Lagos State former Head of Service, Hakeem Muri Okunola has retired from active civil service in the state.

Muri Okunola who was the first son of Justice Muri Okunola was a trained legal practitioner a d has practiced law before join the Lagos State Civil Services in 2001.

Between 2003 and 2005, Hakeem Muri Okunola was personal assistant to Bola Tinubu, when he was serving as the Executive Governor of Lagos. Tinubu later appointed Hakeem as the Executive Secretary to the Governor, Land Use and Allocation Committee.

Hakeem Muri Okunola was later promoted to the position of Permanent Secretary in the Lagos State Public Service in 2011. He was deployed to the Lands Bureau in the Governor's Office where he supervised the State's Lands Administration machinery. In this capacity, he played significant roles in improving the state's ranking in the World Bank's Ease of Doing Business Index. These include the Electronic Certificate of Occupancy (E-C of O), the Electronic Data Management System (EDMS) and the 30-day processing of consent applications.

In 2015, he was named Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, working on the amended version of the Child's Rights Law and the Child Protection Policy among other things. During this period, he was also on the board of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA).

Muri-Okunola was appointed Head of Service on 28 December 2018, being the most senior ranking member of the Body of Permanent Secretaries in Lagos State.

Hakeem Muri Okunola's farewell message as the Civil Servant in Lagos State reads:

"Alhamdulillah… Barka Jumah…
Thankful to Almighty Allah as today marks the end of my journey in the civil service of Lagos State following my voluntary retirement from the most vibrant public service in Nigeria. I give all glory and adulation to the Almighty for guiding me through the journey of leading the Lagos State Public Service as the 21st Head of the Civil Service for the past nearly five years and I count on Him and your prayers as I embark on a new journey.


"I thank the Governor and Deputy Governor, the Speaker and the entire members of LAHA, The Chief Judge and all members of the Judiciary, the Executive Council, the Body of Permanent Secretaries, the Chairmen and members of all service commissions and my colleagues the entire workforce of the Lagos State Government. You have been a pillar of massive support and I truly appreciate you all. I will surely miss you all.


"I enjoin you all to please extend the same and much more support to my successor in office, The 22nd Head of Service of our dear State, Mr Shuaheeb Olabode Agoro. I congratulate him and wish him a most successful tenure in office. Best wishes
