Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has fallen under scrutinization of the netizens who choose to query what he meant by calling Rivers State a 'Christian State' in his statement after the inauguration.

Governor Fubara in a statement where he was assuring residents of his state of good governance said "Rivers State is a Christian State, and God is our foundation. We shall govern with the fear of God and stay strong to our Christian values of trust, faith, love, care, and sacrifice.

Reacting to Governor Fubara's statement, some Nigerians online expressed dissatisfaction at the statement. Some citizens criticized the Governor for calling Rivers State a Christian State while others challenged him in bringing God to the course of delivering good governance in Rivers State.

Reactions from some of the netizens are:

Jackson Ude: And who cares if it is a Sango, Egbesu, Buddhist, or Amadioha state? Wasn’t it a Christian state when your mentor was spending millions getting drunk on a 40yrs old Whiskey, rigging elections, and looting the state’s resources? You guys would hide under Christianity to perpetrate evil. Get down to work and spare us your religiosity!

Grace: Oga Fubara, are you seeing your mates in Abia and Kano? They've not talked about religion oo but we can see that they've started moving mountains. Please keep your religious preaching somewhere so we can start using you as a good example, too. I nukwa!

Olu: Is this not a bit dangerous considering if other Muslim majority states do the same, people go dey complain?

Zion: This man will fail woefully and I am willing to actually bet on it. Once you start hearing Christian Values know he is a Fraud and more

Felix: Keep Christian or Muslim out of it, religion never does any good, start working.

Adewole Adebayo (Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party in the 2023 election):
@SimFubaraKSC , Rivers State is not a Christian state. Rivers is a Nigerian State in which diverse religions, traditions, and faiths reside. If you want to prove that you are a Christian, fine enough. Show it by governing with righteousness so that Rivers people will rejoice.

Ifeanyi Ṣiwọ: Rivers State should rather be seen as a 'secular state' & not a 'Christian state'. While growing up in PH, I enjoyed communalism with the Muslims, Traditionalists, Judaists, Eckists, Spiritualists, etc. We should focus on promoting our rich cultural heritage rather than religion.

Omeche Koleya: This was Ortoms template for Benue, exactly how he started. Rivers state people, shine ya eyes oo.
