Governor Seyi Makinde Some citizens are confused about opinions generated early on Friday when the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde was in the company of the immediate former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, and a former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori to meet with the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday.
Although the outcome of the meeting was not made available for public consumption, some opinion molders suggested that Seyi Makinde, Nyesom Wike, and James Ibori who are members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were meeting with the President to perfect their plans to dump PDP for the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC).
The presumed defection rumor of the top PDP members was so fabricated that the outspoken former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike had to submit a rejoinder, addressing the Press to clear doubts on the genuineness of their PDP membership. Nyesom Wike said their meeting was not a pointer to party politics.
However, less than 24 hours after they met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja; Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde was seen sitting at the same table with the former Vice President of Nigeria and 2023 presidential candidate of PDP, Atiku Abubakar in Bauchi.
Although Atiku Abubakar and Seyi Makinde were invited by Bauchi State Governor Bala Muhammed to a retreat for elected officials of the PDP in Bauchi State, the presence of Makinde at a party event where Atiku was also present, has now diluted the views of some Nigerians on whether Seyi Makinde, Nyesom Wike and their political allies in PDP are truly rooting to defect to the APC.
In fact, at the Bauchi accord, it was in the remark of Governor Seyi Makinde where he stated that PDP had issues prior to the general elections, he also talked about the healing process to unite the party.
Governor Makinde, at the Bauchi accord, stated that "we had issues prior to the general elections but the healing process should start now to unite the party. We must now focus on the future and what unites us. On behalf of PDP Governors, I stated that all 13 governors are ready to play a stabilizing role in our party.
What do you think is really happening between the PDP, Atiku, Governor Makinde, and his allies?
Do you think President Tinubu will still empower these men while they remain in PDP?
Do you think they will use the empowerment to develop PDP or work in favor of APC by destroying PDP more?
