Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved, with immediate effect, the recruitment of about 5,000 teachers and 250 education officers.
The government said the recruitment will fill the vacancies available in the state teaching service.
Recall that Governor Adeleke sacked all the teachers recruited in the second batch of the 5,000 teachers recruitment commenced by his predecessor, former Governor Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola. The decision was greeted with widespread allegation of political witch-hunting of the followers of the former Governor Oyetola.
Even though the newly recruited teachers sacked by Governor Adeleke have been begging for their jobs, Governor Adeleke left no hope for them as the new recruitment notice give no priority to the victim of the political power transition.
In a statement released while arising from the Executive Council meeting of the State, possibly the first of it in 2024, the spokesman to the Governor, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, said "The Council noted that the approval for the recruitment of teachers follows the conclusion of the need assessment which the Governor ordered last year.
"The Council directed that the Ministry of Education should fast track the process of recruitment to strengthen the education system.
Mallam Rasheed also disclosed that the state government has approved and voted N1.386 billion for the rehabilitation of Ora Igbomina Water Works.
He said "The Council also approved a contract for the rehabilitation of Ora Igbomina water works at a total sum of One billion, Three Hundred and Eight Six Million, Eight Hundred and Seventeen Thousand Naira, Thirty-Six Kobo.
Speaking further on the Ora Igbomina Water Works, Mallam Rasheed stated "The Council directed that the mobilization of the contractor should be handled immediately in view of the worsening exchange rate.
Governor Adeleke had earlier charged members of the council to be innovative and think out of the box to deliver on their ministerial mandate.
“To achieve a lot, let us think out of the box. Let us be innovative. We should not be giving excuses. We have a job to do and we must deliver, no matter the condition”, the Governor charged the cabinet members.
