Policemen involved in Ekpoma Misconduct Following recent public distress in Ekpoma, Edo State which was caused by an act of gross misconduct by some officers of the Nigerian police attached to the axis, the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun has taken action to forestall a reoccurrence of such event, which he described to be unprofessional.
Among the actions taken by IGP Egbetokun was the outright disbandment of the police team that caused the havoc, while the officers involved in the incident have been summoned to face a panel at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The actions taken by the Force Headquarters were contained in a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi who stated that "In a bold move to address the unprofessional conduct of some Police Officers attached to the Edo State Police Command who were responsible for running over a citizen at Ekpoma, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has taken the decisive action of disbanding the team forthwith. This step aims to regularize and standardize police operations in the axis; and restore public trust in the Police Force.
Additionally, the Police PRO stated that the operatives involved are currently facing disciplinary charges and administrative procedures. This move underscores the commitment of the IGP to hold officers accountable for their actions which will never be tolerated in the Nigeria Police Force.
The Inspector-General of Police reiterates his commitment to ensuring the highest standards of professionalism and ethics while urging members of the public to always cooperate with Police Officers in the discharge of their statutory duties," CSP Adejobi said.
