The Chief Executive Officer of Binance, Richard Teng, has alleged that some unidentifiable Nigerian Officials are demanding bribes to clear the log of dirt surrounding his firm in Nigeria.
Teng disclosed this while revealing the ordeal of the company to the New York Times, on Tuesday.
Teng specifically stated that bribes of cryptocurrency worth $150 million were being demanded by some unidentifiable Nigerian Officials to "make issues go away".
Binance is a popular digital currency platform but has been flagged and blacklisted by the Federal Government of Nigeria over allegations of currency manipulation by its operators.
Following the allegation of foreign exchange rate manipulation and illegal operation of Binance in Nigeriaye government detained some of the top executive directors of the company in the country.
The detained executives included Nadeem Anjarwalla, a 37-year-old British-Kenyan and Binance’s regional manager for Africa; and Tigran Gambaryan, a 39-year-old US citizen and Binance’s head of financial crime compliance.
The company executives have since been charged to court by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Note:
Critically looking at the allegation raised by Richard Teng, three things could be possible, however, with suspicions.
How could the CEO of Binance, Teng, claim ignorance of the top government officials who are allegedly demanding a bribe from him in cryptocurrency when he has access to detailed information about the cryptocurrency account to which the bribe would be paid if agreed?
Arguably, the claims look more planned, dubious, and a white lie attempting to paint the country in black to dilute the allegation of illegality perpetrated by Binance in Nigeria.
Besides, isn't it possible that internet fraudsters have hijacked the nemesis of Binance in the country to dupe the company of the said amount, mimicking Federal Government officials?
This is because it is still very hard to believe for anyone to expect Binance Executives to pay bribes to alleged Federal Government officials without convincing Binance about their stakes and influences in the country and the case, especially.
