The news break that reported arrest of the former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly,  Mr. Moses Thomas Sule, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has left many people wandering. People have been skeptical on what could have been responsible for the arrest of the former Speaker and 14 other former members of the Plateau State House of Assembly who are no longer in the office.

Well, the former speaker and 14 other former members were arrested by the EFCC for money laundering.

According to the allegation submitted against the former speaker and his contemporaries, the former Speaker connived with 16 other members of the House to move the impeachment of former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Abok Ayuba, who was temporarily replaced by Yakubu Yakson Sanda in 2023.

Hon Moses Thomas Sule became speaker in June 2023 and spent six months in Office during which he was accused of illegitimately spending about N2.5billion to purchase vehicles for himself and some of the fellow  lawmakers who were in his camp.

According to the allegation leveled against the former Speaker, the official vehicles were not approved by the State Government as take-home but the speaker and his contemporaries forcefully took away the vehicles.

Eventually, Hon. Moses Thomas Sule was later sacked by the Court after litigation instituted by the impeached Hon. Abok Ayuba after about six months in office.

However, attempts by the Plateau State Government to recover the vehicles purchased by Hon Moses Thomas Sule for himself and allies was unsuccessful, and this forced the state government to spend another set of official vehicles for the serving House of Assembly members, costing the state about N2 billion.

Hence, the former Plateau State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon. Moses Thomas Sule and 14 other former members of the Plateau State House of Assembly were arrested for money laundering following illegal procurement of official vehicles worth N2.5billion without following due process.
