The administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano declared Monday June 2nd Public Holiday and this has generated concerns among citizens who raise skeptism about the declaration.

Unfortunately, there wasn't any public holiday that is permanently tied to June 2nd either in the declaration of the Kano State Government or the Federal Government of Nigeria but a recent calamity that befall Kano State mandated the one-time public holiday.

Recently, there was a report that members of the Kano State Sports Council who took part in the just concluded National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State, numbering about 22, lost their lives in a ghastly road accident while returning home from the sports festival.

The people had just participated in the athletic events in Abeokuta and were returning to Kano when their vehicle was involved in a ghastly road accident and the occupants of the vehicle, regrettably, lost their souls.

To mourn the sudden death of these fellow citizens who eventually lost their lives while returning from the national event, although represented their state, Kano State Government declared Monday June 2nd as public holiday in the state to show love for the departed souls.

This Kano holiday will only be observed in Kano State and the holiday is not permanent or an annual event it will be marked once, June 2nd 2025 and subsequent June 2nd won't be declared as public holiday in the state.
