Nigeria's D'Tigress, the reigning African champions, have once again showcased their continental dominance with a resounding victory, this time against Cameroon in the quarterfinals of the 2025 FIBA Women's AfroBasket tournament. The 83-47 win in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, not only secured their place in the semifinals but also extended their remarkable unbeaten streak in Africa to 27 games, a run that dates back to 2015.

The team, coached by Rena Wakama, was in control for the majority of the game. Despite an early 4-0 lead for Cameroon, D'Tigress quickly found their rhythm. A jump shot from Elizabeth Balogun put Nigeria ahead, and they never looked back, finishing the first quarter with a commanding 21-9 lead.

While Cameroon showed some fight in the second quarter, matching Nigeria's scoring, the D'Tigress proved too strong, leading 41-29 at halftime. The third quarter was where Nigeria truly sealed the win, going on a dominant 25-2 run that effectively ended Cameroon's hopes of a comeback.

The victory was a true team effort, with all 12 players featuring in the game and getting on the scoresheet. This depth and cohesion have been a hallmark of this D'Tigress squad. Forward Amy Okonkwo led the scoring with 18 points in just under 19 minutes, while other players also contributed significantly to the victory.

This win is a significant step for D'Tigress in their quest for a record-tying fifth consecutive AfroBasket title. With their spot in the semifinals secured, they have also clinched one of the four available spots for African teams in the 2026 Women's Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournaments.

The D'Tigress are now set to face Senegal in the semifinals as they continue their journey to defend their title and further cement their status as the queens of African women's basketball.
