Former Nigerian Super Eagles captain and playmaker, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha has sided with the country's national team to defeat its opponent at the semi-final stage of the ongoing Cote D'Ivoire 2023 Africa Cup of Nations,
Nigeria has been paired to play against the Bafana-Bafana of South Africa on Wednesday, February 7th, 2024 by 6:00 PM, West African time (GMT +1).
The former Nigerian playmaker stated that, although the four semi-final games are open and too close to call, Nigeria's Super Eagles has a better advantage of lifting the trophy, about ten years after it last won AFCon in 2013.
Okocha, who has been in Cote D'Ivoire since the beginning of the tournament, has been providing side support for the Super Eagles as he encouraged the players to see the match against South Africa on Wednesday as a personal ambitious project that must be accomplished.
He said, “It is open but of course as a hardcore Nigerian fan I expect our team to grab the opportunity and make it to the final and give themselves the chance to win it,” Okocha said.
“It’s one step at a time, we have South Africa to play next. We just have to earn the right to win a football match. It doesn’t matter how now, we just have to win.”
