Political parties are vehicle throughout which politicians seek election into executive and legislative offices at Federal, State and Local Government levels in Nigeria.

Before any citizen of Nigeria can contest for an elective position, he/she must be sponsored by a registered political party.

Registration and coordination of political activities by political parties in Nigeria are managed by the country's electoral body, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Hence, as of July 2025, there are 54 registered political parties  in Nigeria. They are:

1. All Progressives Congress (APC) - Ruling party since 2015 to date.

2. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) - Main opposition party and had ruled Nigeria for 16 years between 1999 and 2015.

3. Labour Party (LP) - Third force, gained significant attention in the 2023 elections.
