Jose Peseiro Nigeria's Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, has reacted to the loss of his team to the Elephant of Cote D'Ivoire in the final match of the Cote D'Ivoire 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.
Coach Peseiro revealed that his football tactics failed against the Ivory Coast in the final match.
Nigeria's Super Eagles lose to Cote D'Ivoire in the final match of AFCON 2023 on the scoreline of 2-1.
Nigeria played a defensive match against Ivory Coast with its 3-4-2-1. The match style had attracted a lot of criticism from Nigerians who believe that the coach should have encouraged his players to attack like they did when they played against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon at the knockout stage of the just concluded AFCON.
Reacting to the result, Coach Peseiro said, "When you have a system that you have been using and it has been working, you really don’t want to change it. It is true that I kept to this strategy until we were 2-1 down and then I decided to change it… We conceded goals from some defensive errors and they had a drop in level, against the Ivorians. But I am proud of how my players have been in this tournament."
Peseiro started his professional football career in 1977 when he played in the youth league at Coruchense until 1979.
Between 1979 and 1994, he played at various senior teams and started a managerial career in 1994. He was employed by Nigeria in 2022.
