Photo Credit: Daily Trust A few days before the presidential election in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, there have been some political steps being taken by major political stakeholders in the country. Among the gimmicks is the new political toast between the two major political blocs that split the northern extraction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Atiku Abubakar and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
It was reported, a meeting between representatives of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
According to Buba Galadima, a leader of the NNPP, "Atiku is using religious leaders to appeal to Kwankwaso to step down for him, Atiku used former heads of state and prominent people to appeal to Kwankwaso, Atiku used traditional rulers, spent billions of naira to persuade them to go and talk to Kwankwaso to step down for him."
Will Kwankwaso step down for Atiku?
This question is more than a billion dollars question and the response could be resolved after this explanation.
Pending any unforeseen political event, the battle between Kwankwaso and Atiku in the North is a fight to the finish and this may be justified by some previous occurrences, which form a critical part of whatever decision that would be taken, mostly by Kwankwaso who is the start boy in this game, up the north.
Considerably, when Kwankwaso needed Atiku the most, he failed and frustrated Kwankwaso out of the PDP. It would be amazing for anyone to even project Kwankwaso stepping down for Atiku, mostly at this time when Newston's third law of motion is in action.
Recall that Newton's Third Law of Motion states that "to every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Let us take a look at the scenario that warrants this claim.
Recall that during the last PDP states congresses, all that Kwankwaso needed was to have a hold of the PDP Executive in his Kano home state. Atiku openly planted some of his allies in the state so much that the processes were frustrated to the level that PDP has no valid congress anywhere across the Northwestern states. This is all because there is no how Kwankwaso has the hold of Kano executives without withholding the helm of controlling the party's Executives across the Northwest. He has the wherewithal to prove that.
Consequently, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso was frustrated out of PDP while every PDP member in Kano that could be traced to him was sidelined and rendered politically irrelevant.
How would anyone thinks Kwankwaso would give his support to a political ally that has contributed heavily to his political woes?
Besides, we should not forget that Ariku has been in a deal with Senator Shekau who was a former ally of Kwankwaso. The game played by Atiku then, was to break Kwankwaso's structure by hijacking one of his strongest allies where Shekau was found fit, but the plan must have failed. How would anyone thinks Kwankwaso would still want to sit side by side with Shekau under the umbrella of Atiku, who had attempted to use Shekau to befall him?
Above all, there is a unique political power tussle that is currently going on, in the northern part of the country and this may form a major reason Kwankwaso may not sacrifice his political fitness for Atiku Abubakar.
It could be highly presumed that some northern politicians will retire after the 2023 general election. Then, there is a necessity for a new set of political leaders to take the centre stage, mostly in the north.
The new set of politicians would play major political roles in the course of clearing the political interfaces between the North and the South.
Interestingly, among the political leaders that may retire in the North is Atiku Abubakar and Kwankwaso is considered among the upcoming leaders in the region.
Knowing this, Kwankwaso may not have a reasonable number of votes out of the Northwest geopolitical zone, but the number of votes he gathers from the zone would to the best extent determine how relevant he would be regarded when comparing the political relevance of the upcoming political leaders in the North.
Considering the above, it could be evidenced that Kwankwaso needs to project himself by whatever number of votes he would gather in the forthcoming election, rather than subduing his political worth to Atiku which may forever bury Kwankwaso's political strength and render his strength useless, mostly when he may need it more, in the coming election years.
