How President Tinubu Is Silently Provoking the Oppositions Ahead of 2027

Bola Ahmed Tinubu Nigeria Politics News
Bola Ahmed Tinubu
Although he won his election with a narrow margin following the keenly contested 2023 presidential election, the presidential administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu has left politics alive, some political gladiators unrest, and brought about a great phenomenal change in the ways Nigerian politics was played.

Remarkably, since the return of democracy to the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1999, there has been no presidential administration that has kept its political opponents on their toes, restive and perturbed as the incumbent administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is invoking unrest of mind, deviation from the traditional ways of playing Nigerian politics and loosing of nights of sleep to three major political blocs that usually form opposition to any incumbent administration in the country.

Interestingly, it is knowledgeable to recall that the majority of the political stakeholders in Nigeria understood Nigerian politics as a "once in every four years" event. Consequently, they abandon politics immediately after the election or, the longest after the completion of legal battles that usually followed elections. However, there is noticeably a change in the political behaviors of the politicians and political stakeholders in the country which might be a consequence of the fear and honor for the political versatility of the incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Let us quickly run through the cycles of the political opposition in Nigeria, and how the administration of President Tinubu might have fingered their political tradition and culture.

Aspirants for Political Offices Across Parties Ahead of 2027

The fear and honor for the personality of the incumbent President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, might have been responsible for the shift in the political behaviors, culture, and traditions of the majority of the major politicians aiming to contest for one or another political office in the country, come 2027, under their various political parties.

Notably, the majority of the politicians aiming to contest political offices in 2023 have changed from the tradition of moving out of the country, permanently, until the election comes around [2027] believing that only their money is enough to change the minds of the people, when as done in the past, speculation and all forms of untrue stories would be sold to the people to discredit the incumbent administration.

The reason they fear abandoning the country and coming back around 2027, as usual, to contest political offices could best be known to them but it is noticeable that politicians aiming for 2027 elections, in both ruling and opposition parties, are busy sitting tight in the country in preparation for the 2027 general elections even though the incumbent administration is yet to spend a year in office.

For instance but not limited to him, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is one of the Nigerian politicians who doesn't look back, once he loses an election. He doesn't only stay away from the country, he lives far away from the politics of his party and only comes back during the election years to recontest. Unfortunately, he has hardly spent a week outside Nigeria since he lost the 2023 presidential election to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Likewise, the second runner-up in the 2023 presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi has been restive as Alhaji Atiku attending social activities in political colorations, all to represent themselves ahead of the 2027 election amidst the fears and honor the political versatility of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Opposition Parties

Opposition parties, following Nigeria's political tradition since 1999, are always unanimous in criticizing the ruling party, and always bold to play the role of opposition. However, the case is quite different as the majority of the stakeholders of the opposition parties looked humbled and self-cautious about the political versatility of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who they have all known for decades as a politician with everything required to deliver on the field.

Arguably, no opposition party is today unanimous in criticizing or attempting to stand against the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It is either you see a faction saying one thing against him in the morning, and two other factions from the same opposition party correcting the [wrong] impression by the previous faction. In fact, for his political goodwill or thereabouts, the majority of opposition party members maintain indifference even with strict carefulness in contributing to issues that concern President Tinubu.

Opposition Within Ruling Party

One of the strongest factors that unveil the weakness of an executive officeholder is an inability to earn credibility from his fellow party members and hence gives rise to opposition from within the ruling party otherwise known as anti-party.

Thus far, although there is no political party with no aggrieved members a belief in the political versatility of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu seems to have kept all hands on deck, with every party finding amicable means of settling their scores within the ruling party.

The majority of the members of the ruling party who played anti-party activities during the last general elections are either restive sourcing for amiable means of finding peace with the President or burying themselves in the silent background with no stone or dust being hurled on the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from them.

Opened for diverged discussion though, the fears and honour the politicians across political parties give President Bola Ahmed Tinubu might not be connected to the Office of the President he currently occupies but the doggedness with which he defeated the "Invasion of the South West" by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003 with ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the commissioned General to bring down the states; his magic hands during the 2011 Presidential Election; the wonders in him that ousted former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, and the miraculous means with which he laid to rest the multiple trace challenges that confronted his 2023 presidential election [say the role played by the presidential cabals or the unexpected antagonism from his political godsons including former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osibanjo], and the natural intervention he received to emerge as the President of the country despite conspiracy by top government officials who formed alliance with opposition to block his ways.
