A yet-to-be-ascertained news is brewing up on the Nigerian social media spaces, claiming that the forum of State Chairmen of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) has asked the presidential candidate of the party in the February 2023 general election, Engr Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso to resign his membership of the party.

Kwakwanso was said to be involved in anti-party activities, allegedly fuelling crisis among leaders and members of the party across the 36 states of the Federation.

"The Forum of State Chairmen of New Nigeria People’s Party(NNPP) has asked its presidential candidate in the last general election, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso to tender his immediate resignation or risk indefinite suspension over his alleged involvement in anti-party activities," the source stated.

The Forum in a statement by its chairman and leader Comrade Sunday Oginni accused Kwankwaso of allegedly masterminding crisis in NNPP across the country in a move to hijack the party from the original owner and founding members.

Is the News a Lie?

As could be expected, many people believe that the news where the forum of the state chairmen of NNPP would be calling for the resignation of Engr Kwakwanso's membership of the party could not be Truth. Those who floor the certainty of the information, unfortunately, rely upon their decision in a belief that no one can chase Kwakwanso out of the party he registered by himself, NNPP.

However, it is important to point to the fact that a political party is not a private entity and it is not an enterprise entity whose ownership claim could be secured by a personality. It is important to note that no individual owns a political party in Nigeria.

Haven said that it is most important to recall that the NNPP was facilitated and registered by Dr. Boniface Aniebonam.

Many people may not even know that the NNPP was founded in 2000 and became operational in 2021. The platform was given to Engr Kwakwanso to contest for the Presidential seat of Nigeria in 2023.

Although it could be uncertain to establish the call for the resignation of the party membership of Kwakwanso by a forum of the state party chairman, there is what could lead to such.

Recall that recently, the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Sunday Oginni was suspended for alleged corrupt practices, and this did not seem to satisfy the founder of the party, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam who has condemned the suspension of Oginni.

It is also relevant to recall that the influence 9f Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso in the party might have overwhelmed the political strength of the defunct members of the party, and since the election period is over, the defunct members of the party may want to take back their party to streamline it for a future election, whereas Engr Kwakwanso's superior political magnificence might have brought a big shade on their thoughts. Hence, the possibility of a power struggle between Kwakwanso and the defunct members of the party could be imminent.
