Fact-Check: Igbo Travellers Attacked In Kano? The Round Table understands that some individuals are broadcasting reports that some yet to be identified Igbo travellers have been attacked in Kano.
This claim is coming, a few hours after about 16 Northern travellers were attacked in Edo State, with 14 of them already pronounced dead.
The Round Table can authoritatively discard the claim of any attack, in the recent time, on any Igbo travellers around Kano State.
The Round Table understands that there are security challenges facing Nigerians, especially in the Northernmost part of Nigeria but the recent claim of attack on Igbo travellers in Kano is unfound and declared false.
According to the Kano State Police Command the “viral news circulating on social media” regarding an attack on a 18-seater bus carrying Igbo passengers in Kano is “false and misleading”.
This was included in a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the state, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
This also trended:
The statement implored members of the public to “disregard this phony news and refrain from spreading unverified information, misinformation, and hate speeches that can cause harm, panic, and truce in the community”.
“The Kano State Police Command is committed to maintaining law and order in the state and ensuring the safety and security of all residents, regardless of their ethnic or religious backgrounds.
“We have began an investigation into the source of this pseudo news and will take necessary actions to bring those responsible to justice.
“We appeal to the public to cooperate with the police and declare any suspicious activities or individuals spreading imitated information to the nearest police station or through our emergency numbers.
“Let us work together to maintain peace, agreement, and security in Kano State,” the statement subjoined.
The rumour is coming in the crowd of the outrage that went after the killing of 16 northerners in Edo State by local vigilantes.
The victims, who were travelling to Kano State, were mistaken for kidnappers.
