According to a report by the SaharaReporter, Nigerian uprising music star, Brymo Olawale was being condemned by some Twitter users for unveiling his opposition to the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Brymo had stated that the region where the presidential candidate of the Labour Party hails from is unripe to be trusted with the presidential seat of Nigeria.
He said, while replying to a tweet, "Don’t respect my intelligence nor choices… you are trying to not accept a resolution… argue more than… pls …. It is not prudent to elect him yet, he may have to vividly organise his home front to lead the rest of us… an Igbo VP first maybe to test the waters with the region is safer!”
This statement by Brymo seemed to have halted the feeling of some Twitter users, mostly those that hail from the same region as the presidential candidate in person. He is being dragged by the concerned people.
However, for so many reasons, one would wonder if what Brymo has said deserves such attention and condemnation as being given to him.
Sincerely, because Brymo is a legitimate citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he has the right to Freedom of speech and association which may qualify him to reveal the reason he is not supporting a political movement ahead of the February election in the country. However, looking at his popularity in the music industry and the political tension in the country, for now, his statement could be taken to be wrongly timed, delicate to his career and the peace of the Nation.
Bruno is a public figure and his voice would, always, go a long way than he may imagine due to the love people have for the music industry in Nigeria, hence, it may be disastrous to read out such a "hard fact" to the people at this critical time.
Haven said it, Brymo himself should have been expecting critics from people who hail from the region he was talking about and, mostly, the expectation of condemnation from the supporters of the Labour Party is imminent for him.
