LAUTECH The Oyo State chapter of the National Association of University Students (NAUS) Campus Monitoring Committee (CMC) has shut down academic activities at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomosho.
According to the Executive Chairman, Comrade Michael Oladipupo of the Oyo State chapters of NAUS, the decision was taken to demand justice for the illegitimate killing of a student of the institution by an officer of the Nigeria Police Force.
A skeptical report, yesterday Monday, April 22nd, had it that an officer of the Nigeria Police Force allegedly shot dead a student of LAUTECH when the policemen were invited to settle a rift between two students.
According to the report, a police officer on arrival at the scene of the rift started shooting in the air which led to bullets hitting some students. Consequently, a student died while two others sustained injuries.
A statement released by Comrade Oladipupo on Tuesday related to the sad development described the killing of the student as an "appalling and senseless" one. He, however, ordered the closure of academic activities on the campus with a promise that directives for the organization and mobilization for the protest demanding justice for the killed student would be unveiled by its committee.
He said “This tragic incident not only represents a gross violation of human rights but also underscores the urgent need for comprehensive reform within law enforcement agencies across Nigeria.
“In this extensive discourse, we aim to explore the harrowing details of the incident, examine its broader implications, and articulate our stance on seeking justice and driving systemic change.
“In this stance, no Classes must take place anywhere on Campus today. Further directives on Protest and Mobilisation will be released soonest. Till Justice is served, Aluta Continua.”
