Recently, some Nigerians came online to discourage their fellows from sending their wards to any institution that is not awarding Bachelor Degree in the minimum.

This trend has caused people raising eyebrows to worry what could have led to the reawakening of the HND/BSC dichotomy in the country.

Although in the past, there has been a long discussion among Nigerians on the unequal treatment being meted at the graduates from both First Degree awarding institutions and Higher National Diploma (HND) awarding institutions. The discussion is reawoken because of the latest development from Taraba State University, Jalingo, Taraba State, Nigeria.

Nigeria has long been entrenched in BSC/HND dichotomy, where graduates with BSC are given much recognitions, better entitlements, and faster promotion than their colleagues with HND who were recruited at the same time, but the recent BSC/HND dichotomy which make some people calling on their colleagues to stop sending their kids to non first degree awarding institutions was caused by the development from Taraba State University as contained in a memo released by school management as signed by the Registrar of the institution.

According to the memo, the University Management is intended to conduct an election  for the internal members of the institution but in the invitation extended to the members of staff who will take part in the election, all members of staff who were recruited with HND, OND and every other certification lower than University's first degree were specifically informed not to attend the event.

The content of the memo has raised eyebrows, forcing Nigerians to discourage their fellows from sending their kids to any institution that is awarding whatever certificate lesser than  Bachelor's First Degree.

Although, none of the Management of the Institution, Taraba State Government, of the Federal Government of Nigeria has reacted to the development, it is much expected that one of these institutions must rise to address this development as it tends to lead to the next cause for nationwide discourse, argumentations and litigation.
