The organized labour comprising Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has rejected the Federal Government's proposal of N62,000 minimum wage even as state governors insisted they cannot afford to pay N62,000 minimum wage. The organized labour insisted it would not collect any amount lesser than N250,000 as the minimum wage.
This implies that organized labour may resume their industrial action, tomorrow, Tuesday, June 11th, 2024 reminding that the industrial action was only suspended for a few days to allow the government and organized labour to reach an agreement on the national minimum wage.
No doubt, the tripartite committee had not reached an agreement and thus signifies something, "the labour will most probably resume its industrial action," and this may stimulate the citizens to anticipate some things ahead of the industrial action.
Recall that during the last industrial action, the major challenge that people faced was shutting down of national grid.
Although the decision by the workers to shut down the national grid was brutally condemned, it may not be ruled out, the possibility of getting it shutdown against as the workers intend to go back to staying away from work, tomorrow; so, citizens are encouraged to charge their rechargeable electrical appliances, and withhold subscription to any appliance that may need to run on power.
Also, citizens are encouraged to get enough cash at hand or move money to their transactional bank accounts which can reliably do mobile banking because banks will surely be affected by the industrial action.
Likewise, less quantity of perishable food items should be stocked as there may not be a power supply to keep the freezer running.
Citizens may be encouraged to feel their vehicles and other machines that run on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) as the industrial action will also affect oil marketers.
Citizens, even though there are austerity measures, are encouraged to cut their spending and ensure they only spend on what they need to keep their financial balance in an active state as inflation is expected till the industrial action lasts.
