Attracted by the financial value of the luxury contained in a ship that allegedly sank off the coast of Cornwall, United Kingdom in 1641, a UK-based company has commenced hunting for the lost ship.

The sunken ship, dubbed the "El Colorado of the Sea" was said to be carrying gold worth £4 billion as of the time it went missing with no trace, of its whereabouts over about 400 years.

According to a statement released by the company, Multibeam Services with specialization in locating lost wrecks, "The search for the sunken ship carrying an estimated 4 billion pounds in gold, known as the Merchant Royal, has commenced near the UK coast. Despite centuries of efforts to locate the vessel, it has remained undiscovered.

The UK company equipped with cutting-edge technology believes it has the means to finally find the elusive wreck tagged the "El Dorado of the Seas" due to its rumored immense riches, the Merchant Royal sank off the coast of Cornwall in 1641.

The company plans to search a 200-square-mile area of the English Channel throughout 2024, utilizing unmanned underwater vessels and advanced sonar technology.

Nigel Hodge, the company leader, underscores the historical significance of any potential discovery, stating that any treasure found will be treated as heritage artifacts.

Despite the immense financial potential, Hodge stresses that it is not a mere "gold rush," emphasizing the difficulty of navigating the treacherous waters where the ship went down. With their team consisting of former fishermen and leveraging local expertise along with technological advancements, Multibeam Services remains hopeful of success where others have failed. The Merchant Royal, en route to Dartmouth from Mexico and the Caribbean, sank on September 23, 1641, following a stop in Cadiz for repairs and cargo loading.
