Alexei Navalny, Russian opposition leader and main critic of President Vladimir Putin has reportedly died in prison.
He was said to have fallen unconscious on Friday after a walk at the "Polar Wolf" Arctic penal colony where he was serving a 19-year sentence after he was convicted of extremism.
The 47-year-old Alexei Navalny is the most formidable opposition to the administration of Vladimir Putin.
Alexei Navalny was the hope of manRussiansan as the only prominent domestic opponent who could tell the truth to the face of Vladimir Putin, and his death is considered an opportunity for Putin to extend his reign to at least 2030, as the country prepares for another election.
Alexei Navalny's boldness to challenge what he called "crooks and thieves" within Putin's administration has not gotten any match for the past few years.
After almost three weeks Russian prison authorities lost contact with him, the lifeless body of Alexei Navalny was discovered at a prison colony above the Arctic Circle.
The Round Table recalls a documentary by Navalny, directed by Daniel Rohr, the strongest Putin's political opponent said: “If they decide to kill me, it means that we are incredibly strong.”
US officials openly say “Russia is responsible” for Navalny’s death in custody.
Also, the United Nations expressed concern over Alexei Navalny's death urging Russian authority to "end the persecution".
However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has blasted Western countries for pointing the finger at Moscow, saying their reaction is “absolutely unacceptable”, a state media report.
Peskov said the reaction to reports of Navalny’s death was “hysterical” and their statements were “absolutely unacceptable”, the TASS news agency reported.
