Hizbah Police Local Police in Kano, popularly known as Hizbah, have arrested eleven people for violating the rule of the holy month of Ramadan.
The arrested residents of Kano, according to Hizbah, were found guilty of abusing the Islamic jurisprudence and honor for the month of Ramadan.
During the month of Ramadan, Muslim Faithful are expected to abstain from food, drinks, sex, and forms of immorality from dawn till late in the evening, daily, for 29 or 30 days of the month of Ramadan.
Hizbah, while patrolling to maintain law and order in Kano city, arrested eleven people, one female, and ten (10) men for eating food items when they were supposed to be fasting.
Lawal Faggae, the Hizbah head informed journalists that the arrested Muslim Faithful have since been released after taking oath that they will continue to fast through the remaining days in the holy month of Ramadan.
Hizbah mounts surveillance on eateries, local food canteen, food markets, and other public places where adults could take food substances.
The arrested female who is said to be a groundnut seller, decided to eat from the groundnut she was selling in public.
Faggae stated that all the arrested people are Muslim Faithful and Hizbah is only dealing with Muslims who are not respecting the holy month of Ramadan.
"Hizbah is not monitoring or arresting non-muslims, Faggae stated further.
Recall that recently Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the Commander General of the Kano State Hisbah Board had an issue with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for condemning the activity of Hizbah including the arrest of some people for allegedly taking alcoholic substances in the state.
Daurawa who threatened to quit his appointment was later begged by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf with a promise that the government would not comment about the activities of Hizbah again.
