Philip Shaibu Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, who is also a governorship aspirant for the forthcoming Edo State 2024 Governorship Election has tendered an unreserved apology over his past remarks on the personality of his erstwhile political godfather and former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomole.
Philip Shaibu who tendered the apology while speaking on a TVC program expressed soberness over his choice of words against Adams Oshiomole during the 2020 Governorship Election in the state and insisted that Adams Oshiomole remains his father.
Philip Shaibu said, “I express remorse over my choice of words against Comrade Adams Oshiomhole in times past and I insist that the former governor, now a Senator at the National Assembly, remains my father despite our political differences.”
Recall that during the 2020 Governorship Election in #do State, Adams Oshiomole, who was then the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), fell out with Governor Godwin Obaseki of his home state, Edo.
Consequently, Obaseki was disqualified from contesting reelection under the platform of APC, the scenario that led him to dump APC for the People's Democratic Party (PDP).
During the political tussle, Philip Shaibu, a political godson of Adams Oshiomole abandoned his boss and aligned with Godwin Obaseki to fight Adams Oshiomole.
Noticeably, Adams Oshiomole said, in 2020, that everyone who aligned with Obaseki in the political imbroglio would surely be embarrassed by Obaseki because he was fighting Obaseki for the right cause.
To this end, Godwin Obaseki has proved Oshiomole's words as he embarrassed the former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, who singlehandedly fought the Edo State PDP members to win the governorship ticket of the party for Obaseki.
Recently, the political relationship between Governor Obaseki and his Deputy, Philip Shaibu, is enough to prove that Shaibu has been embarrassed by Obaseki.
Interestingly, on the TVC program, Philip Shaibu also spoke about his 2024 Governorship ambition and the opposition he is facing from Governor Obaseki because of whom he abandoned his political mentor, Adams Oshiomole.
Philip Shaibu said, “Yes, I want to be the next Governor of Edo State not because I am Philip Shaibu, it is my constitutional right. Before publicly declaring my interest in to contest, I had consulted widely with many persons and groups within and outside Edo State.
“Moreover, I went into prayers to seek guidance and direction from God. The signs I received encouraged me to go ahead with my aspiration, though it was obvious the Governor had his plans of supporting another person.”
