Employer Drags Staff To Court for Allegedly Stealing His Two Loaves of Bread
Loaves of bread
Two staff members of the FoodCo Company, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria have been dragged to court by their employer for allegedly stealing two loaves of bread.

Ebenezer Olusesi, 31, and Ibrahim Adeniyi,41 were arraigned before the Iyaganku Chief Magistrate's Court, Ibadan, after allegedly stealing two loaves of bread from their employer, FoodCo Company.

The company told the court that the stolen loaves of bread, which were considered the property of the FoodCo Company worth N2,600 and that Olusesi a baker, and Adeniyi, a security guard, who although have pleaded not guilty to theft were responsible for the loss. However, Cpl. David Adepoju told the court that the defendants allegedly conspired together to commit the offense.

Adepoju said the defendants on April 28 allegedly stole two loaves of bread worth ₦2,600, property of FoodCo Company, Ring Road, Ibadan, represented by Friday Achibong.

He said the offense contravened sections 390 (a) and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000. The Chief Magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of ₦50,000 each with two sureties each in like.

Ogunkanmi said one of the sureties must be a relation while the second sureties must present tax evidence for two years.

She adjourned the matter until August 15 for a hearing.

Note:

Theft is punishable but some cases seem to be given soft hearing and this could be considered as one of those that are worth it.

During this austerity measure, economic hardships, and difficulty in making a living, a staff taking a loaf of bread at such a mega bakery shouldn't be considered theft except if the loaf of bread is sold or traded in a way that would not amount to the staff being fed.

Although it is considerable, the economic hardship is also biting on the companies, the welfare of their staff is as paramount as the service they provide.

Assuming without concluding that the suspect took two loaves of bread from the company's rollout, is it enough to dock workers of such a mega bakery for taking a loaf of bread, each, possibly for feeding themselves?

Is the enough to run a company into bankruptcy?
