Police Chiefs In a significant stride towards maintaining law and order, the Anambra State Police Command has paraded 129 persons suspected for different crimes who were apprehended in a recent crackdown operation.
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aderemi Adeoye made the revelation during a press briefing at the police headquarters in Amawbia where he explained that among the 129 crime suspects are 30 suspected for insurgency, 38 suspected for cultism, 39 suspected for armed robbery, and 22 suspected for kidnapping.
According to the Police Commissioner, the suspects were arrested in different locations across the state during a week-long operation conducted by operatives of the command.
He explained that the operation was part of the ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities in the state and ensure the safety of its residents.
Mr Adeoye further explained that in details the suspects who are aged between 18 and 45 were arrested when an insurgent's camp was smashed in Ogbunka, for vandalizing public property on second Niger Bridge,armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, and drug trafficking.
The Commissioner of Police also showed several dangerous weapons such as local pistols, ammunition, bullets, charms, firearm, illicit substances, cars and stolen property that were recovered during the arrests.
One of the high-profile arrests involved the apprehension of a notorious armed robbery gang leader at Enugu.
His gang was said to have been terrorizing residents in different parts of the state for several months but the police operation has now successfully dismantled his criminal network, leading to his arrest and several of his accomplices.
Commissioner Adeoye commended the hard work and dedication of the officers involved in the operation and assured the public that the Anambra State Police Command was committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all residents.
He, therefore, urged citizens to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies by providing valuable information that can help combat crime.
The police assured that due process would be followed in their prosecution, emphasizing their commitment to upholding the rule of law.
In a statement to mark his first three months in office as Police Commissioner of Anambra State, Mr Adeoye expressed gratitude to the hardworking men and women of the police force and the cooperation of the community, emphasizing that the achievements so far were just the beginning and that he remained committed to improving safety, security, and trust between the police and the public.
