Why I Resigned As Lagos Assembly Speaker - Meranda While Mudashiru Obada was nominated as Speaker of the House, Mojisola Meranda was nominated again as Deputy Speaker.
This pursues her earlier resignation from the Speakership position after an emotional plenary on Monday, 3rd March.
Meranda, the first female Speaker of the Lagos Assembly, disclosed she resigned to protect the state assembly, adding that she is not the quitter.
She publicised her resignation at plenary as lawmakers praised her leadership style and for bringing peace to the Lagos State House of Assembly.
“I didn’t take this decision lightly. I am not the quitter. I took this decision to save this house from further embarrassment. I am making a personal sacrifice by stepping down as Speaker,” Meranda stated.
The lawmakers eulogised her strength and humility for obeying the governs and regulations of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Similarly, Mudashiru Obasa was nominated unopposed as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Following legislative processes, Obasa has been unanimously bounced back as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, while Meranda bounces back to her position as the Deputy Speaker of the House.
Both leaders were subsequently sworn into their new positions.
