The United States has refused to stand alongside other nations In the world after it became the only country presently opposing the United Nations' call for an “immediate humanitarian cease-fire” in Gaza after Friday's bombardment reported more deaths of civilians.

Almost all other members of the United Nations Security Council and other countries across the world except the United States agreed to an “immediate humanitarian cease-fire” between Israel and Gaza. During voting by the 15 Security Council member states, the United Kingdom abstained; the United States opposed while all other 13 member states agreed on a cease-fire.

However, U.S. Deputy Ambassador Robert Wood condemned the UN Security Council after the votes, accusing them of dumb sleeping when Hamas was attacking Israel on October 7th where about 1200 civilians were said to have died.

He said “Hamas has no desire to see a durable peace, to see a two-state solution. For that reason, while the United States strongly supports a durable peace, in which both Israelis and Palestinians can live in peace and security, we do not support calls for an immediate cease-fire.

However, Russia’s deputy UN Ambassador Dmitry Polyansky condemned the opposition by the U.S. calling it “a death sentence to thousands, if not tens of thousands more civilians in Palestine and Israel, including women and children.”

After voting, the United Arab Emirates UN deputy ambassador Mohamed Abushasha said “What is the message we are sending to Palestinians if we cannot unite behind a call to halt the relentless bombardment of Gaza? Indeed, what is the message we are sending civilians across the world who may find themselves in similar situations?”

Since the war started on October 7th about 17,400 people have been killed in Gaza including 70% of women and children while over 46,000 were injured with many trapped in the rubble, the Palestinian Health Ministry stated.

Gilad Erdan, Israel’s UN Ambassador however told the press that peaceful cohabitation in Palestine and Israel “can only be achieved once Hamas is eliminated – not one minute before. So, the true path to ensure peace is only through supporting Israel’s mission – not to call for a cease-fire. Israel committed itself to the elimination of Hamas’ capabilities for the sole reason of ensuring that such horrors could never be repeated. And if Hamas is not destroyed, such horrors will be repeated.”
