The political crisis rocking Rivers State is taking a new dimension as issues have been pushed away from lawmakers against the Governor to the authorities that control the affairs of the local government areas in the state.
Recently, Governor Siminalayi Fubara appointed some of his Loyalists to replace the serving local government chairmen even though the incumbent chairmen insisted their tenure has already been elongated by the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Following this, there is a show of power in Tai local government as the former local government Chairman and his men are out to ensure no one loyal to the governor of Rivers State is seen close to the council secretariat.
The Chairman is still insisting that there is a tenure extension for 6 months so he remains the local government chairman until his six-month extension expires. This is how it is happening in the majority of the local government areas in the state.
However, it is important to take into consideration that the local government conflict in Rivers State may not be resolved until the issue of the parallel Rivers State House of Assembly is resolved.
Recalling that the bone of contention here is the validity of the tenure of the Chairmen, and to which of the two parallel Houses of Assembly the state Governor and the Local Government Chairmen must pay their allegiance, how do you think the legal conflict could be resolved?
