Southwest Marginalized as APC Governors Submit Proposal for NASS Leadership Slots

Apc governors, proposal for NASS leadership
Bola Ahmed Tinubu
Governors elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have submitted a proposed zoning formula for the leadership of the 10th National Assembly as the party takes lead in the number of assembly members elected in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

The geopolitical zone where the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu hails from, Southwest is however marginalized in the proposed zoning formula as projected by the APC governors.

According to the document containing the Proposed Zoning Formula For NASS Leadership Positions, as agreed upon by the APC governor the Senate Presidency is intended to go to either South East, South-South, or North Central.

Recall that the current President of the Senate is from the North East and the incoming Vice President is also from the North East. As well, the outgoing president is from the North West. So, the three regions were left out.

However, the position of the Deputy Senate President is being proposed to go to the North-Central or North-West.

Recall that the outgoing Deputy Senate President hails from the South-South; North West has the outgoing president, the Southwest has the outgoing Vice President and the incoming President as North East has the incoming Vice President and the Southeast produced the immediate past Deputy Senate President.

The APC governors have also agreed to zone the Speakership position to either North Central or North West.

Recall that the North Central and North West were pegged for the position of Deputy Senate President, so if one fails, it may likely take up this position to balance the zoning.

The position of the Deputy Speaker of the House is however some to either the South-East or South-South.

In all the zoning, only Southwest did not feature in at least one of the leadership slots as projected by the APC governors.
