Parent Reacts As Polytechnic Lecturers Allegedly Ask Students To Pay Before Taking Test
Nasarawa Polytechnic, Nasarawa
One of the parents of the students attending Nasarawa State Polytechnic has condemned the school lecturers' decision to charge students of the institution before allowing them to take tests or assessments in the school.

The allegation which was contained in a lamentation letter written by Adamu Gwarzo described the development as illegal and exploitation of the innocent students.

The concerned guardian, in the open letter addressed to the Registrar of the school, asked the school authority to stop the incessant charges to prevent poor students from falling victim to the menace because they won't be able to buy their way as the rich students.

Gwarzo writes, "I am writing to express my deep concern about the recent practice of some lecturers at the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa charging illegal fees for tests and assessments. This practice is not only unfair to students but also undermines the academic integrity of the institution.

"As a concerned citizen and guardian of a student at the Polytechnic, I am deeply troubled by reports that certain lecturers are demanding that students pay unauthorized fees to participate in tests or receive assessments. These fees are not only unexpected burdens on students, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds, but they also create an unequal playing field where some students may have an advantage based on their ability to pay.

"I urge you to investigate this matter thoroughly and take immediate action to stop this illegal practice. The collection of unauthorized fees for academic purposes is a violation of the Polytechnic’s regulations and a betrayal of the trust placed in the institution by students and their families.

"I kindly request that your office:

• Investigate these allegations and identify the lecturers involved in this practice

• communicate to all lecturers that charging unauthorized fees for tests and assessments is strictly prohibited

• Implement a mechanism for students to report such instances without fear of reprisal

• Take appropriate disciplinary action against any staff found to be engaging in this illegal activity.

"I believe that a strong and transparent educational system is essential for the development of our nation. By addressing this issue swiftly and decisively, the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa can send a clear message that it will not tolerate such practices and is committed to providing a fair and equitable learning environment for all students.
