There are speculations that one of the former Governors elected under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) is rooting to become the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Spokesman of the 2023 presidential campaign of Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Council, Daniel Bwala has joined many other Nigerians who speculate, without mentioning a name that a former APC Governor is heavily rooting to succeed the current Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.
Emefiele still has about ten months, pending the decision of President Bola Tinubu on whether to renew his tenure. Although Godwin Emefiele has hinted to Nigerians that he is due for a course abroad which was approved by the immediate former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Bwala claimed that it would be erred for a former Executive Governor of a state who has been partisan to mount the seat of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. He claimed that it will violate the rules and regulations of appointing the Governor of the apex bank if President Tinubu should approve the speculated former governor.
Bwala stated that "A former Governor is pushing heavily for the role of Central Bank Governor. If he or any politician is chosen for that role, No 16th administration would be riddled with scandals of monumental proportions. Here are the criteria for that role;
1. He/she must not be a member of any political party
2. He/she must not have belonged to any political party.
3. None of his/her family members should be a member of any political party.
4. He/she must not have been indicted or is being investigated or prosecuted by any law enforcement body.
5. He/she must not own a bank or financial institution, part-own a bank or be a shareholder of any bank or financial institution.
6. He/she must not have executed any contract on behalf of a bank or served as a consultant for any bank or financial institution.
7. He/she must not have a debt liability with any bank or financial institution.
