Oladips calling out Wizkid on Use of Lyrics
A popular Nigerian rapper and songwriter, Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, widely known as Oladips in the entertainment industry has called out one of the current leaders of the industry, Wizkid, for using his lyrics in one of his latest music works.
Oladips accused Wizkid of padding his lyrics before using them in his new collaboration with Asake, another prominent Nigerian singer.
The lyrics, I had to lose myself to find my purpose was originally used by Oladips in one of his released songs while Wizkid used Lost myself and I found my purpose in his latest collaborative work with Asake.
Although Oladips did not sound like thinking about copyright infringement, some music fans claimed English was too far from him.
Even though Wizkid has yet to react to the development, music fans insisted that such lyrics are common words in society over decades and could be regarded as free words that could be transformed to suit purposes by any intending user.
Oladips rose to fame in the Nigerian music industry with his unique style, which blends Yoruba and English lyrics and has released several popular songs, including Chache, Lalakukulala, and Vain. He has collaborated with other notable artists including Reminisce, Olamide, and Small Doctor.
