Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun
The National Judicial Council has recommended Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, following the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing CJN, Olukayode Ariwoola.
The tenure of Olukayode Ariwoola, who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari as the country's CJN on June 27, 2022, as the Chief Justice of Nigeria will end in August 2024, when he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 70.
Following Ariwoola's retirement and if the nomination of Kekere-Ekun is approved, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun will become the second female Chief Justice of Nigeria.
Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun is a jurist and Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. She was born on May 7, 1958, in Lagos, Nigeria.
Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun was appointed to the Supreme Court in 2013 by former President Goodluck Jonathan to become the first female Justice from Lagos State to be appointed to the Supreme Court.
She has served as a judge in various courts, including the High Court of Lagos State, the Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court.
