JAMB Student The intelligence level of both the Northern and Southern Nigeria students came into discourse yesterday. This was as a result of an argument that erupted online after the release of the results of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Some southerners were bragging online, comparing the UTME results of their candidates to what they believe the north cannot get, but Reno Omokri was of different opinion. Reno was of the opinion that the North are more intelligent only that the doctrine of their religion taught them to be humble in victory.
His submission read:
A lot of Southerners do not understand the North. Both Northern Christians and Muslims are guided by conservative religions and cultures, which teach them to be modest from an early age. Google it. Northerners have scored the highest in both JAMB and WAEC/NECO, but they tend to be humble even in victory.
In 2018, the highest scorer in JAMB's UTME was a young man named Galadima from Borno. He scored 364. Interestingly, he did not post his score on social media. He was outed by the press.
Last year (2022), a girl from Sokoto, named Mariam scored the highest result in the NECO exams. And she remained camera-shy.
If not that Forbes exposed him, I doubt that many Nigerians would have known that Aliko Dangote is the richest Black person on Earth. Such is their modesty. But if he were to come from elsewhere and have even 1% of his current wealth, he would have declared himself King of Money.
Do not use your lifestyle to judge Northerners. In birth, life, and death, they tend to be modest. The showoff life is not for them.
UTME Result
That sort of lifestyle has its benefits. It also has its drawbacks. Too often, it leads to unhealthy rivalry, which pushes youths to go into crime and perversion to get money so that they can also show off, so that people will not come on social media and laugh at them for not boasting of their achievements like their peers.
I have taught in the North and have also been taught in the North. If you want my opinion, the average Northerner is very intelligent. I have seen a 10-year-old Northerner who could recite the Quran. You, Jeff, are an adult. Can you recite The Bible?
Western education is not the only score of intelligence. Take yourself, for example. Even your English grammar is horrible. You use mark when you mean 'marked'. Yet, you think you are more intelligent than others.
Southern Nigerians are not more intelligent than Northerners. They are rather more Western-educated.
For centuries before colonialism, Southerners were illiterate. But literacy flourished in the North. Northerners even have their own written script and alphabet called Ajami. That is what many Southerners see on Naira notes and ignorantly call Arabic.
On March 30, 1981, after the then US President, Ronald Reagan, was shot, Professor Jubril Aminu, a Professor of Cardiology, was consulted before surgery was performed on President Reagan.

Even today, how many Professors of Cardiology do we have in Nigeria?
Nigerian education is based on Western education. That is why you think you are more intelligent than a Northerner. If we had an education system based on Eastern curriculum, you would see them far ahead.
They combined oriental and occidental education and are humble. You just have borrowed Occidental education and are puffed up with pride. So sad. So sad!
