US trained investigative journalist, Kemi Olunloyo has revisit a story of how the famous family of Sarakis in Ilorin, Kwara State, allegedly duped many nigerians who invested and safe money into a bank that was owned by Olusola Saraki, father of Bukola Saraki.

She accused Saraki family of taking loan from the bank to prosecute the 2003 governorship ambition of Bukola Saraki. She claimed that Bukola and Gbemisola managed the bank before it was liquidated.

Also, Dr. Kemi Olunloyo talked about attempt by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe the illegality but was stalled by power that be.

Dr. Kemi Olunloyo writes:

The Societe Generale Bank of Nigeria was operated by Dr Olusola Saraki and his children Bukola and Gbemisola. They were accused of looting billions and the bank folded with many Nigerians losing their life savings. License suspended by CBN then revoked.

The mess that happened at the Saraki’s bank involved the EFCC and the stalling of the trial. Each time Ribadu tried to make the case go forward someone is removed. Late Dr Olusola Saraki was accused of using loans to finance Bukola and Gbemi’s Saraki’s 2003 political ambitions.

Ibrahim Lamorde's EFCC also tried to arraign/prosecute father and son, he was removed and posted to Ningi village in Bauchi as a police area commander. The Yar’adua administration blocked all means of arrest of Olusola Saraki . Bukola became governor, Gbemisola a Senator.

The bank folded up, millions of Nigerians lost their life savings including my parents who kept portions of their money there with a trusted political party associate. It was a sad time as the 90’s bank crisis continued into the millennium. Heritage bank took over what was left.
