Gov Adeleke Accused of Selling State Investment to Family Member at Giveaway Price

Gov Adeleke Accused of Selling State Investment to Family Member osun news today
Ademola Adeleke
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has been accused of illegally selling a business of the state, Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) mega station, to a yet-to-be-disclosed member of his family at a giveaway price.

A trending social media claim accused Governor Adeleke of having sold the 26 Nozzles-mega station which was valued at NO billion to one of his family members at a giveaway price of N100 million.

Although the state government has debunked the allegation, it stated that it has only instructed the Osun State Investment Company (OSICOL) which manages the multi-million naira investment to terminate its agreement with the NNPCL.

The reason for which the State government under the administration of Ademola Adeleke decided to terminate the agreement with the NNPCL has not, however, been justified by the state government even though the Mega Station was built by the administration of Rauf Aregbesola to ensure citizens are relieved of experiencing hardships before having access to fuel at regular market's pump price.

The investment which was built by Aregbesola at the wee-hours to the 3nd of his administration was maintained by the administration of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola without necessity for speculation in the ownership of the investment.

The resident of the state raising alarm about the accusation relied on a letter that was recently leaked to the public domain that hinted at the state government's alleged attempt to sell the public property to a family member.

A letter jointly signed by Owolawi, G.A and Taofik Alimi, Head of Venture Capital and Special Projects and Managing Director of Osun State Investment Company Limited respectively on 16th November, 2023 proved that Osun State Government has approached the NNPCL for the termination of the agreement with which the state investment was handed over to the NNPCL for proper management while the state government receives its rewards on schedule.

Taofiki Alimi, who was one of the signatories to the leaked letter, however, released information to debunk the attempt to sell the state property but still failed to give a reason for the termination of the agreement the state has with the NNPCL or give an insight of how the state government wants to fine-tune the future of the investment. He said, “Our attention has been drawn to fake news published by a platform known for its consistent spreading of false news which is increasingly bringing pressure for the invocation of the Cybercrime Act.

“We strongly state that the state government is not converting any state property including the NNPC mega station for private use as headlined in the false publication. Even the published letter from the state investment company never mentions anything like conversion to private use but emphasizes the need for a review of the state business interest.

“Where the peddlers of fake news got her falsification from is what will be determined when the Cybercrime Act is invoked.

“We assure the public that the state government is committed to the protection of public properties and profitable management of state investment. This administration is not like the paymaster of the purveyor of fake news who carted away government vehicles and looted government quarters after their defeat in July 2022."
