Former Minister of Power and Steel, Olu Agunloye, has been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Agunloye, who served under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, was accused of contract racketeering and award of contracts that outlawed what a minister could approve without Presidential approval.

Agunloye was accused of awarding a $6 trillion contract without the approval of former President Olusegun Obasanjo whereas the former president claimed that no Minister had power to approve any contract above N25 million under his administration. Besides, Chief Obasanjo has personally been calling for the investigation of the Power Transmission Contract Scandal, stated that he was not aware of the aware of the contract which currently worth N7.5 trillion.

The ex-minister was arraigned before the federal high court in Abuja on Wednesday, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges read against him.

Agunloye has been remanded in Kuje prison pending when bail would be granted.
