Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Saturday morning arrested over 50 suspected Yahoo boys after raiding some lounges and event centers in the Alagbaka area of Akure, the Ondo State Capital.
Among those arrested and whisked away was a groom-to-be who was in one of the clubs with his friends for his Bachelor’s Eve celebration.
The personnel were said to have stormed the areas in different cars around 1 am, shooting sporadically into the air.
They also confiscated scores of vehicles, laptops, sophisticated phones, and other items.
“They were entering the nightclubs and lounges, tear-gassing people, beating them up and arresting them. They don’t care who are, even two soldiers were injured as they shot tear gas canisters inside one of the clubs.
“They also went away with a groom and his friends at a club, he was there for his bash eve, so sad as they profiled everyone as Internet fraudsters.”
Note: Some people have been condemning EFCC, talking about the becoming of the planned wedding, however, isn't it more important to assess the reality about the profession or link it to criminalities by the arrested guys?
Were soldiers allowed to use public clubs aside from their mammie market?
Above all, yes, even if the EFCC has intelligence about any illegal activities at the club, why wasn't there an on-the-spot screening before profiling everyone present as Internet Fraudsters?
