Chinese military has intercepted a warship belonging to the United States of America, the incident which was followed by an accusation that the United States is the “biggest destroyer” of peace and stability in the Middle East. The Chinese military comprising both Naval and Air forces was directed by the Chinese authority to drive away the U.S warship from the Paracel Islands which China calls the ‘Xisha Islands’.

The incident is the first time China would be taking a major confrontation against U.S military action anywhere in the world after the leaders of the two countries, Joe Biden of the United States and Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China took side talk at the recent Asia-Pacific summit in San Francisco.

According to a report by the state-run Chinese media organization, People’s Daily, China claims that the decision by the U.S. to sail into the South China Sea is a “serious violation” of China’s sovereignty and security.

The missile destroyer USS Hopper was redirected back and monitored out of the South China Sea by the Chinese Naval and Air forces on Saturday, November 25th, 2023.

Recall that China has laid claim to the entirety of the South China Sea rejecting claims of shared ownership by the United States of America, Vietnam Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, and Brunei, although the Permanent Court of Arbitration in 2016 ruled against China’s claim of sole ownership to the South China Sea stating that “China’s claim in the South China Sea has no legal basis” but the Peoples Republic of China has rejected the judgment.

Speaking on the development, the spokesman for the People’s Liberation Army’s South Theater Command, Senior Colonel Tian Junli stated that “The theater command has organized air and naval forces to follow and monitor it, and drove it away according to law.” He described America’s action as a “security risk maker in the South China Sea” and the “biggest destroyer” of peace and stability in the region.

Reuters, however, reported that the deputy spokesperson of the U.S. 7th Fleet, Lieutenant Kristina Weidemann, told them via email that “The United States challenges excessive maritime claims around the world regardless of the identity of the claimant.”

Kristina was quoted as saying “Unlawful and sweeping claims in the South China Sea pose a serious threat to the freedom of the sea”.

Recently, the United States had pally with the Philippines sending both air and sea patrols around the country while another U.S ally in the region, Australia recently sent a warship through the tense Taiwan Strait, between the mainland and Taiwan, which China claims as part of its territory despite opposition on the self-ruled island, Newsweek reported.
