Benue State Government Stops Payment of Backlog Salary Arrears, Give Reason
Governor Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia
Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia has ordered immediate stoppage of the ongoing payment of salary arrears owed to the Civil Servants in the state by the past administration.

As promised during his political campaign, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia in his inaugural speech reiterated the promise to commence payment of the salary arrears owed to the state workers on June 25th.

Exactly on Sunday, June 25th Gov Alia commenced payment of the salary arrears owed to the workers both in the State Civil Service Commission and Local Government Service Commission.

Recall that the administration of the immediate past Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom owed the civil servants in the state five months salary arrears in 2017, and has not paid a kobo to any of the state workers since November 2022. In total, the administration of Samuel Ortom owed the Benue State civil servants about ten (10) months' salary arrears.

Workers from both state and local government civil service commissions have testified to the payment of the salary arrears by Alia.

Stopping the payment of the salary arrears, Gov Alia said the government has detected that salary structures in the state have been padded in such a way that salary is being paid to accounts that do not belong to the genuine state workers.

Governor Hyacinth Alia has however promised to resume the payment, once the staff register is sanitized.
